Function / Content

This series consists of files relating to applications for mining leases in the Alice Springs region (then known as Stuart). The locations include the Granites and Tanami goldfields as well as mining interests at Jervois Range copper mines and Harts Range mica mines. Included within the series are a number of applications regarding the substitution of name of applicant for a mining lease, extracts from the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette providing notification that mining leases have been approved by the Honorable the Minister for Home Affairs and refusals of lease application as notified by the Administrator. The Administrator also granted lease applications to applicants via lists provided to the relevant Warden. These Wardens include JC Lovegrove and PF Muldoon. The file relating to the Alice Springs lease application numbers 909-923 contains a note that all lease application were passed, by substitution of names, from James Thornton Beckett to Lowther Charles Hope on 20/06/1933.
